Why is Nigersaurus called 500 Teeth Dinosaur?

Nigersaurus (pronounced /ˈnaɪdʒərəs/; Greek: Νιγέρας, “Daughter of Niagra”) was a sauropod dinosaur. It was about 9 m (30 ft) long and weighed about 5 tonnes.
Nigersaurus is a dinosaur that has been named 500 teeth. It was discovered in Niger in the late 1960s and has been the subject of study for over 40 years. The name Nigersaurus means “Niger lizard,” while the species name means “five hundred.”
There were 68 columns of teeth in the upper jaws and 60 in the lower jaws, totalling over 500 active and replacement teeth. Each column of teeth erupted simultaneously, not one at a time. The teeth of Nigersaurus were highly asymmetrical, ten times thicker on the outward-facing side than on the inward-facing side. This is otherwise known only in advanced ornithischians.
Nigerosaurus was a giant sauropod, but it was fairly small for a sauropod. Its body length was about 9 meters (30 feet), and its femur reached only 1 meter (3 feet, 3 inches).
The largest sauropod dinosaur was an elephant-sized, four-tonne sauropod called Rebbachisaurus. Its neck was only about 10 m long, just like other sauropods.
The only family member of the sauropod family to reach the size of the largest dinosaurs was Rebbachisaurus.
The presacral vertebrae are very heavy, and they have little cancellous bone. They consist of thin bone plates with air spaces.
The vertebral arches were so heavily pierced by extensions of the external air sacs that their side walls were reduced to only 2 mm (0.08 in) thick, intersecting laminae, the ridges between the pneumatic openings.
The tail vertebrae of the diplodocoid sauropodomorphs were much more slender than those of their more basal relatives. The pelvic and pectoral girdles were also much thinner than in the more basal Sauropoda.
The forelimbs of the Nigersaurus were shorter than the hind limbs, and the front legs of diplodocoids were longer than the hind legs.
History of Discovery
The remains of a new species of dinosaur, Nigersaurus, were discovered in the Republic of Niger. They’re thought to belong to the family of dinosaurs called sauropods, which includes Brachiosaurus.
Although dinosaurs have been poorly understood, due to their delicate and highly pneumatic construction, their remains are disarticulated.
Some of the fossilized skulls of the rebbachisaurids are so thin that a strong light beam is visible through them. This means that they are not completely intact and preserved, and these fossils represent the most complete and well-preserved specimens known of the species.
Niger is the country where these new dinosaur species were discovered. They were named after the Niger River.
Nigersaurus taqueti is a dinosaur from the Late Cretaceous period. The holotype specimen (MNN GAD512. consists of a partial skull and neck.
The bones of the arm, leg and shoulder of a dinosaur were found in the same location, and they are all from the same specimen. They were collected and stored by Dr. David Burnham of the University of California, Berkeley.
Wilson gave the first detailed description of the skull and feeding adaptations in 2005. A few years later, he published a more detailed description of the skeleton of this species, based on a specimen that had been discovered ten years earlier.
The fossils, along with a reconstructed skeleton mount and a plastic model of the head and neck, were subsequently presented at the National Geographic Society in Washington. The media dubbed the dinosaur “Nigersaurus”, and the press described it as the most unusual dinosaur ever found.

They also had a closed supratemporal fenestra, which is a hole in the side of the skull.
The nasal openings were elongated. The nasal bones were not completely known, but it appears that the front margin of the bony nostril was closer to the snout than in other diplodocoids.
This dinosaur had a unique arrangement of teeth. It’s the only one with all of its teeth located as far to the front as it is. No other tetrapod has them that far forward.
The teeth of the small, well-developed, and gracile skull of the specimen have a slender profile, which is characteristic of early hominins. Most of the specimens have very thin, curved, and pointed teeth, and only one tooth has a broad, flat occlusal surface.

The lower jaw of the Nigersaurus was an L-shaped structure divided into the transverse ramus, which contained the teeth, and the back ramus, which was more lightweight and was the location for most of the muscle attachments.
There are many dinosaurs with long necks, including those with the longest known neck of any dinosaur. One such dinosaur was Supersaurus, which had a very long neck. Supersaurus was distinct in that it had several fenestrae, including five that were not present in other sauropods.
The front ends of the jaws of the hadrosaur Nigersaurus had grooves that indicate the presence of a keratinous (horny) sheath. It’s the only known tetrapod animal to have had jaws wider than the skull and teeth that extended laterally across the front.
What is the Size of Nigersaurus?
Nigersaurus was a quadruped with a small head, thick hind legs, and a prominent tail like all sauropods. Nigersaurus was small, with a body length of just 30 feet and a femur that was only 3 feet tall.
Nigersaurus weighed around 4.4tonnes, similar to a modern elephant. It had a short neck for an animal. Most rebbachisaurids had short neck lengths of 10 m (33 ft) or less. There was only one member of the family that reached the size of sauropods.
